Outdoor Power Equipment Spec Comparison
The measured baseline for cordless mowers, string trimmers and leaf blowers — cutting width, pack voltage, capacity and weight across 156 listings — together with the single worst data defect we have found in this corpus, which was sitting in the blower category and would have published a figure no leaf blower on earth produces.
The category baseline
Three machine types share this hub and none of their figures are interchangeable. Each is tabulated separately.

The exclusion you should know about
Blower no-load speed (RPM) — removed, and it was badly wrong. Forty-eight blower listings carried a figure in the speed field. Thirty-one were air velocity in miles per hour and two were airflow in CFM, because retailers file all three under the same specification slot and the extractor kept the number while discarding the unit. After the range check, five usable RPM values survived out of forty-eight — 8% of the field, down from 14% at half the sample.
At the previous sample size the baseline that would have published from that population was a median of 150 RPM. No leaf blower turns at 150 RPM — the real figure is tens of thousands. What the number actually described was 150 mph of air velocity, which is a genuine and useful blower specification wearing the wrong label. Had this page shipped without the unit check, it would have stated a category average that was not merely imprecise but a different physical quantity.
We now check the source text of every extracted figure against the units its field can legitimately hold, and drop any field where fewer than 80% of values survive. This is the field that motivated the check — and doubling the sample made the contamination clearer rather than diluting it. Air velocity and airflow are worth having as specifications in their own right, and we intend to carry them once they are extracted as themselves rather than as speed.
What the tables say
Cutting width is the most reliable figure in this hub — 91% coverage on mowers, 80% on trimmers — and it is also the one that decides the work. The median mower cuts 406 mm, or 16 inches, with an interquartile range of 356 to 445 mm. That is the small-to-mid residential class. The median trimmer cuts 305 mm, about 12 inches.
Mower weight has one of the widest spreads on this site: 6.71 kg at the 25th percentile against 17.58 kg at the 75th, a factor of 2.6. That is not noise, it is two different machines sharing a category — light single-pack push mowers at the bottom, twin-pack self-propelled machines at the top. Read the weight figure together with the cutting width before drawing any conclusion from either.
The voltage columns show the split this hub is really about. Mowers sit at a median of 40 V with a P75 of 48 V; trimmers and blowers sit at a median of 20 V. A platform that covers your drill and your blower may not cover your mower at all, and that is the arithmetic set out on battery platforms.
Pack capacity follows the same pattern — a 4.0 Ah median on mowers against 2.0 Ah on trimmers and 3.0 Ah on blowers. Outdoor equipment is where pack capacity stops being a specification you can ignore.
How to place a machine against this
| Where it falls | What that means |
|---|---|
| Mower under 356 mm cut | Below the category P25. Small yards and tight access; expect more passes |
| Mower 356–445 mm cut | The interquartile middle. Residential standard |
| Mower over 445 mm cut | Above P75. Check weight alongside it — this end of the category is where self-propelled machines and their mass sit |
| Trimmer under 305 mm cut | Below P25. Edging and light trimming rather than clearing |
| Trimmer over 356 mm cut | Above P75. Wider swath, higher draw on the pack |
What this hub does not publish
Air velocity and airflow are the two figures that matter most on a blower and neither is published here, for the reason set out above. Brushless construction reached 28% of blower listings and 27% of trimmer listings, both short of a usable sample. Runtime claims are excluded by policy — they are unusable without the pack capacity and load condition stated beside them.
Two caveats on the extremes rather than the quartiles. The lightest recorded string trimmer weighs 59 grams and the lightest mower 621 grams; both are replacement spools or accessories that entered the shortlist as machines. And the maximum speed figure in both the mower and trimmer tables is 20,000 RPM, which no machine of either type produces. Quartiles are unaffected by either, which is why this page quotes them and not means or maxima.
Nothing above is a recommendation, a ranking or a test result. We do not own these machines. The method, including the coverage threshold and the unit check, is on comparison methodology.
The Products These Figures Come From
Cordless Lawn Mowers
Of the 34 mowers in this category, 17 publish every figure in the baseline above. All 10 are listed by price tier, then alphabetically — this is not a ranking, and a product appearing here means its listing is complete, nothing more. 6 listings are held back for a published figure far outside the category’s own range — a data defect rather than an unusual product. 1 is held back because the listing’s own title contradicts the specification field we would have printed.

Notes on the Products at the Edges
Most of the products above sit inside the interquartile range on every figure, which is what the baseline already describes. These are the ones it does not: each is outside P25 or P75 on at least one published figure. The position is computed from the category statistics; the explanation is what the listing itself states.
Greenworks 60V 21in Push Lawn Mower — Greenworks, $200-500
Cutting width of 533 mm sits above the category P75 of 438 mm. A push mower on a heavy-duty steel deck with dual blades and a stated 3200 RPM blade speed — the widest cut in this set.
LawnMaster 48V MAX 19-inch Brushless Cordless Lawn Mower — LawnMaster, $75-200
Cutting width of 483 mm sits above the category P75 of 438 mm. Run by 2 X 24V MAX 4.0Ah batteries for a stated 40 minutes, with side discharge or mulching.
MZK 20V 13-Inch Electric Lawn Mower — MZK, $75-200
Cutting width of 330 mm sits below the category P25 of 353 mm. A compact 13-inch deck with a 30L rear bag and 4 cutting heights from 1.3 to 2.6 inches — narrow by design rather than by omission.
EGO POWER+ 16" Cordless Weed Trimmer with Battery and… — EGO Power+, $200-500
Cutting width of 406 mm sits above the category P75 of 343 mm. A 16-inch swath held by auto-feeding line, with 60 minutes quoted on the included 4.0Ah battery.
DEWALT 20V MAX String Trimmer & Leaf Blower Kit — DEWALT, $200-500
Weight of 0.69 kg sits below the category P25 of 2.20 kg. The weight is the bare blower from a trimmer-and-blower kit; the listing rates that blower at 450 cfm and 125 mph.
EGO POWER+ 15" Cordless Weed Trimmer with Battery and… — EGO Power+, $75-200
Pack voltage of 56 V sits above the category P75 of 40 V. A higher-voltage platform than most of this category runs; the listing quotes 45 minutes on the included 2.5Ah battery.
EGO POWER+ Cordless Electric Leaf Blower — EGO Power+, $75-200
Pack voltage of 56 V sits above the category P75 of 40 V. Another higher-voltage tool in this set; the listing quotes turbo up to 530 CFM and 75 minutes on the included 2.5Ah battery.
DEWALT 20V MAX String Trimmer & Leaf Blower Kit — DEWALT, $200-500
Weight of 0.69 kg sits below the category P25 of 1.27 kg. The weight is the bare blower from a trimmer-and-blower kit; the listing rates that blower at 450 cfm and 125 mph.

Common questions
Why is there no speed figure for leaf blowers?
Because the figures we had were not speeds. Thirty-one of forty-eight were air velocity in mph and two were airflow in CFM, filed under the speed field by the retailer. Publishing a median over that population would have stated a number no blower produces.
Why do mowers need 40 V when trimmers manage on 20 V?
Because the work is different by an order of magnitude. A mower lifts and cuts a full swath of grass continuously; a trimmer spins a line. Higher voltage lets the same current deliver more power, which is why the mower half of this hub sits a voltage class above the rest of the site.
Is a heavier mower a better one?
Not as such. Mass in this category mostly tracks cutting width, self-propulsion and pack count. It is a consequence of the specification you chose, not a quality signal, and it matters mainly for storage and for pushing the machine up a slope.
Do you rank these machines or pick a winner?
No. These are distributions, not leaderboards. They exist so you can place a specific machine against its category before deciding.
